Dressing for success

At Clepington Primary School our values are Challenge, Ambition, Respect, Equality. Our values underpin the work of the school and set our expectations for pupil actions and behaviours.

A school dress code is an important way of setting our high standards and developing skills for learning, life and work.

Clepington Primary School expects and strongly encourages pupils to follow our school dress code expectations as it can:

  • Help pupils see school as a place of learning;
  • Promote a positive work ethic;
  • Instil pride in the school and contribute to our vision and values;
  • Contribute to school safety and security;
  • Encourage identity with and support for our school ethos;
  • Promote equality of opportunity and social justice;
  • protect our pupils from social pressures to dress in a particular, fashionable or expensive way;
  • Nurture togetherness and promote good relationships;

We will work with families to realise our aim of all pupils complying with the school dress code.

Expectations for all pupils:

  • White polo shirt or white shirt
  • Tie
  • Navy or grey jumper with no logos (If it has a logo then it should be the school badge)
  • Black or grey joggers, leggings, sweater material shorts with no logos. OR school trousers/skirt/shorts/blue summer dress
  • Mostly black shoes or trainers

PE/gym expectations

Pupils are expected to arrive at school dressed appropriately for the school day, our uniform expectations are appropriate for gym e.g. black joggers and a white polo shirt.

Pupils should dress appropriately for the activity whether indoors or outdoors.

No football colours or strips to be worn and t-shirts should cover the whole torso.

We will have dress down days. These will be advertised in advance.

There are forms of dress which are always unacceptable and not part of our dress code expectations;

  • Football strips and colours
  • Revealing clothes e.g. crop tops
  • Clothes with offensive messaging

We will work in partnership with families, supporting anyone who is struggling to follow the dress code financially or otherwise.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us.
